Conception a Study Reveals the Best Moment to Get Pregnant

Swiss researchers have analyzed thousands of semen Get Pregnant samples to determine the best time of the day and year for fertilization to take place. Verdict.

Couples trying to procreate know that conception is not an easy task. Ovulation occurs only once a month, and the oocyte survives only 12 to 24 hours in the female genital tract before being expelled. This is why it is generally advisable to have sex regularly, and especially a little before ovulation, to increase one's chances of getting pregnant.


But a new scientific study published in the journal "Chronobiology International" brings a little more precision. Swiss researchers reveal, in fact, the time of day and year when sexual intercourse is most likely to lead to pregnancy.

To do this, the scientists analyzed 12,245 sperm samples from 7,068 men, collected between 1994 and 2015. The spermatic concentration, the total sperm count, sperm motility and morphology were studied, showing that sperm cells have their own 24-hour biological clock. And, that they would be better able to reach the egg early in the morning, before 7:30.

In addition, a significant increase in sperm concentration and total spermatozoa was observed in the spring, with significant decreases in summer. The highest percentage of normal morphology was found in summer.

Spring and early summer would be the best time to conceive a baby according to the study. And, intercourse would be more likely to lead to fertilization if they take place in the early morning.

"The quality of male sperm varies with circadian and circannual rhythms," said the study's lead author, Dr. Brigitte Leeners. "Sperm collection early in the morning, when semen quality is highest, can be used to improve natural fertility and fertility through assisted procreation," she said. If this study is confirmed, it could therefore be taken into account in the LDC protocols to increase the chances of success.
