Every year, the month of October is dedicated to Breast Cancer and is called Pink October. The opportunity to talk more specifically about this disease, treatment, screening and support research. Today, several products are known or suspected to affect the risk of developing breast cancer. Small point on the subject.
Many studies are published each year on the impact of a product or component on the risk of developing breast cancer one day.
12 tips to reduce the risk of breast cancer
In France, one in nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime! Here are 12 practical tips to prevent the onset of this disease,
eliminating or limiting the use of suspect products or risky behaviors.
eliminating or limiting the use of suspect products or risky behaviors.
1. Do not use herbicides!
Many herbicides are believed to cause or assist in the development of certain human diseases, such as breast cancer. And for good reason, many herbicides are endocrine disruptors. Therefore, it is particularly important not to use toxic weed killers on the lawns where children play!
So, in the presence of weeds, rather than rushing on weed killers, weeding by hand, use soapy water, vinegar, cooking water potatoes or make a natural mulch, much less harmful for health and the environment.
2. Do not use insecticides
Many pesticides and insecticides have been linked to a variety of human diseases, including breast cancer. Indeed, many pesticides are considered to be endocrine disruptors.
In other words, exposures to small doses of pesticides can have heavy effects, especially if we are also exposed to other chemicals on a daily basis.
When we use insecticides at home, they do not just kill insects and disappear ... They can stay in the air and in the dust we touch and breathe, without even realizing it.
And when used outdoors, insecticides fall on the grass on which we walk (sometimes barefoot). The consequences can also be very damaging for wildlife. The best way to remove insects inside and outside the house, without harming the environment and health, is to use natural alternatives to insecticides.
3. Limit exposure to PAHs
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (known as PAHs) are compounds found in polluted air, the vehicle exhaust valve (especially diesel), tobacco, smoke and grilled foods.
Exposure to PAHs, especially through the vehicle exhaust valve, would increase the risk of breast cancer. Of course, also avoid smoking! Cigarette smoke is a major source of PAH.
4. Breast cancer: watch out for fish consumption
The consumption of certain foods that may contain high levels of PCBs (poorly biodegradable chemical derivatives) must be limited, especially for pregnant women and children. These are indeed known carcinogens with a link to the increased risk of breast cancer.
PCBs, accumulated in the environment and in the food chain, can be highly concentrated in fatty fish or bio-accumulators such as carp or bream. Therefore, if you eat fish, remove as much fat as possible to reduce PCB levels. Also avoid frying, which can "lock in" some of the toxic chemicals in the remaining fat of the fish.
