When asked about people who suffer from a skin disease, psoriasis leads the pathologies "most troublesome" for 74% of them, according to a survey of the French Society of Dermatology. The France psoriasis association relies on its results to launch a new communication campaign: "Noémie, 19, can not take it anymore.
Yet there are solutions.
Zooming in on patients with this disease shows that 30% of them feel discouraged on a daily basis. 10% believe that psoriasis creates difficulties in their life as a couple and even affects their sex life (15%). Finally, one in three patients has trouble falling asleep because of the disease.
More surprisingly, the survey shows that only 45% of patients are followed by a dermatologist. Worse, a third does not consult any doctor to treat his psoriasis.
Yet effective therapies exist, depending on the form of the disease and its extent. Flares can be controlled through local treatments, phototherapy or more powerful biotherapies.
