Pink October a Month to Learn about Breast Cancer

 Learn about Breast Cancer

The arrival of October marks the beginning of the awareness campaign around breast cancer. Pink October is his name of breast cancer, wants to prevent widely and raise funds to advance research around this disease.

October is the best month to talk about breast cancer, a disease that affects 54,062 new people every year. Initiatives multiply from year to year.

Pink October: talk about breast cancer and sensitize women

It is a disease that we know well. All of us in our community have at least one woman who has been affected by breast cancer. When taken in time, it can be cured in 99% of cases, but when the diagnosis is made at an already advanced stage of the disease, it is much more difficult to fight. And every year, 11,900 deaths are recorded.

Pink October a Month to Learn about Breast Cancer

It is precisely to raise awareness throughout society, and women in particular, that the Pink October campaign was launched twenty-five years ago. The goal ? That the women, young or old, go to be tested regularly so that in case of size noted by the doctor, the treatment or the surgical operation is put in place at the earliest.

Bordeaux initiative

In the context of Pink October, many initiatives are implemented throughout France by various associations. There is for example Télététon, an operation initiated by the association Young and Rose born in Bordeaux, who wants to break the myth of cancer that would be declared after 60 years.
If 80% of cancer actually occurs after age 60, there are still 20% that affect young women, sometimes young mothers.

With very catchy and off-the-wall slogans - "Breast cancer before you're 40, it's nonsense?" "There is no age to check his breasts" - Télététon is trying to educate young women about breast cancer. To take the lead, the association recommends a regular palpation of the breasts at his doctor or gynecologist or, in case of family history, to have a regular adapted follow-up with a health professional (gynecologist, midwife, doctor treating ...) who will choose the follow-up and the additional examinations necessary if necessary (ultrasound, mammography, irm ...)

Eiffel Tower dressed in pink

In Paris, things also move and, this year, to mark the beginning of the campaign, the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated with pink and the Montparnasse Tower adorned with a pink ribbon 43 meters long. The goal: to make visible to reach a maximum of people. Communicate yes, but not only. This year, 300,000 euros will be paid by the association Breast Cancer, let's talk about it! to scientific research.
To roll back breast cancer, research and caregivers must have the means to move forward. Five researchers will be rewarded for their work on this cause. A single rallying cry for this new edition of October Rose: "Together, let's wear the pink ribbon and win this fight! Together we will win! Together, stronger! ".
